Cavitations and NICO
Dr Sheldon Katz has been treating patients with cavitations or NICO lesions for approximately ten years. He follows the Huggins Protocol as well as Wes Shanklands approach to treating cavitations, making adjustments in the treatment to suit each patients individual needs. Most of our surgical procedures are performed using IV Sedation. Anesthesia options are discussed during the initial consultation visit.
Preparing for your appointment:
With most cases being complex in nature, it is best to prepare the paperwork ahead of time and forward it to our office for Dr Katz to review prior to your appointment. We will need our patient health history form filled out and sent in, a referral note and x-ray from the referring doctor, and a narrative report from you explaining your dental condition in your own words.
What to expect the first visit:
The initial office visit is approximately a one-hour appointment where Dr Katz will examine you, take an x-ray, take a Cavitat Scan, go over your results with you, and discuss any treatment that you may need. The Cavitat Scan is a through-transmission alveolar ultrasonagraph, which helps aid in diagnosis of cavitations. Any surgical procedures that are deemed necessary are quoted at the end of the initial office visit.
Scheduling appointments:
Patients planning on visiting from out-of-state are required to coordinate the appointments once Dr Katz has reviewed your records. This will help minimize the length of time you will need to stay in Encino, CA. We also can help with providing you a list of local hotels close to our office.
Patients who live locally are urged to coordinate the appointments after Dr Katz has reviewed your records. This will give him adequate time to familiarize himself with your case.
Its about teamwork:
We work with a variety of clinicians to help treat your condition. Dr Katz is treating you strictly from a surgical standpoint. There are many members of your healthcare team that may be consulted with in the course of your treatment.
Dr. Jerry Bouquot processes our specimens from our cavitation surgeries and bone biopsies. Dr. Bouquot is one of the head pathologists at the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. He was one of the first to document the pathology of cavitations in dental literature.
We look forward to working with you.
